Rathlin Ministerial Forum 2025

The Rathlin Ministerial Forum held on Rathlin Island, supports the Rathlin Island Policy and Action Plan delivery. Hosted by Minister Liz Kimmins, Department of Infrastructure, it welcomes discussions from multiple government, community, local council, landowners and other organisations on key issues for the island. The 2025 meeting, held on 17th September commenced with a digital immersive demonstration of content developed by Future Island-Island including the Submersible VR demo for plastics awareness, the Brockley Axe digital crafting experience, Rathlin Island oral histories digital library and a 3D digital assets library. There were formal presentations and discussions by the LIFE Raft Project and Future Island-Island. These led to strategic planning around the themes of (1) A waste free island (2) Digitally connecting islands and (3)The East Light development strategy.
Prof. Magee presented on behalf of Future Island-Island and was accompanied by Dr Brian Dixon, Dr Henry Melki and Gillian Colhoun supporting demonstrations and discussions. The project Impact Cards and a policy report were physically shared.
Stakeholders included  Rathlin Development Community Association (RDCA), Department for Infrastructure (DfI), Department of Agriculture, Environment & Rural Affairs  (DAERA), Department for the Economy (DfE), Department for Communities (DfC), The Executive Office, Northern Health & Social Care Trust (NHSCT), NI Water, Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council (CC&G), Royal Society for Protection of Birds (RSPB), LIFE Raft, The National Trust and Ulster University's Future Island-Island team.
