Description
On 16 May, Ulster University School of Law hosted the second stage of the Northern Ireland Mock Trial Initiative: a full-day simulated Crown Court trial involving a serious sexual offence case.The trial was presided over by Sir John Gillen and involved evidence from police officers, sexual assault clinicians (The Rowan), custody clinicians, forensic scientists, and counsel from the Public Prosecution Service. Participants engaged in examination and cross-examination in a realistic courtroom setting designed to develop confidence in evidential processes and courtroom skills.
The initiative was funded by the NI Department of Justice and Ulster University and forms part of a wider initiative designed to enhance interdisciplinary understanding and evidential skills across a range of criminal justice contexts, with application to multiple case types and training settings.
The event was coordinated by Dr Siobhán Buckley, Mooting Co-Director, School of Law, Ulster University.
