Description
An eight-week, practice-led course introducing Jungian Arts-Based Research (JABR), a transdisciplinary methodology integrating Jungian depth psychology with contemporary arts-based research. Led by Dr Susan Rowland, the course explored creative practice as a mode of inquiry and knowledge production, drawing on concepts of the collective unconscious, psychic imagery, synchronicity, emergence and the relationship between psyche and artistic expression.
Through the development of an individual research project, participants explored embodied and image-based methodologies, spontaneity, symbolic interpretation and the role of the unconscious in creative processes. The course examined the artwork as an autonomous source of knowledge, capable of generating meaning beyond the artist's conscious intentions, and considered the application of JABR to personal, cultural and social inquiry.
The programme combined theoretical study with practical experimentation, equipping participants to develop independent Jungian arts-based research projects and to apply and facilitate the methodology within artistic, educational and research contexts.
