Nexus Maximus is a signature learning event held annually by Jefferson University, Philadelphia, with invited university students and academics. For 2019, the theme of Civility was set by Jefferson's Dean of the Kanbar College of Design, Engineering and Commerce for a total of 60 students from Jefferson and from Ulster University in Northern Ireland; University of Applied Sciences Detmold in Germany; Pace University in New York; and Duoc UC in Chile. Students were joined together in mixed groups on Jefferson's East Falls Campus for four fast-paced days of researching, developing and innovating. Zero-waste grocery store and community garden, to an open-source education platform were example projects. Dr Golden lead a team of MScI Planning Regeneraton and Development Y3 students on the hosted visit, the 2nd inward visit led by Dr Golden at the invitation of College of Architecture and the Built Environment Dean Barbara Klinkhammer at Ulster's June 2019 GoPhilly International Experience events hosted by Global Engagement. Dr Golden participated as a Team Leader and Academic Advisor as well as international jury member for Student Awards. Students from Ulster who took up the challenge: Jonah Carty, Lauren Coulter, Kyle McAdam, Hannah McVeigh, Ciara Mone, and Adam Trafford. Ulster University students won two awards with their teams during the event – Best Collaboration and Peer Favourite. This successful outward visit represents two years of growing collaborative efforts between Ulster and Jefferson’s Architecture and Built Environment Schools, stemming from contacts within the Northern Ireland Office and supported jointly by funding from Global Mobility, the Belfast School of Architecture and Built Environment, and the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment.
