Description
This workshop taught participants how to create a handmade typeface using Adobe Illustrator and free online font creation software such as Calligraphr or FontStruct.I taught participants how to design a font through the context of my practice-based PhD Research project, Living but a Day. This workshop specifically explores how typographic design can be used to remember overlooked histories in Northern Ireland, and takes inspiration from archival material held by Linen Hall Library and HERe NI/LGBTQIA+ NI History Project.
This workshop will discuss the fundamentals of typography and lettering and encourage participants to develop their own typographic expression by re-visiting printed ephemera of the past. The outcome of this workshop will ensure participants have a better understanding of typographic design and how they can use lettering to respond and revisit history.
