I am convenor of BERA's Language and Literacy Special Interest group. In this role I promote and support peer's research on language and literacy. So far, this has included hosting webinars e.g. 'Is Phonics the only show in town?' and creating and hosting a series of podcasts highlighting British Council research on Language learning trends in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Another recent podcast, in which two PhD students from Ulster University discussed their research, focused on how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted primary and post-primary pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL) and their families. Holding meetings with the SIG members is also part of my work.
