A semi-plenary on the Ideas Fund: Putting communities in the lead

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

Semi-plenary session at the 9th Living Knowledge Conference, Gronigen, Netherlands.

The Ideas Fund is a grants Programme run by the British Science Association (BSA) and funded by Wellcome, which enables the UK public to work with researchers to develop and try out ideas that address problems related to mental wellbeing. The Fund aims to reach people and communities who are often overlooked by this type of work, including young people and those in rural communities.

The Fund is trialing a different approach to supporting this work, with individuals, informal groups and charities applying for the funds and leading the projects, and researchers working in support of the community’s plans.

As a representative of Yellow Wood Consultancy Ltd, who received £96, 000 in funding, I shared our experience of involving peer researchers in the project - Delivery of an evidence-based, and theory-driven psychological intervention Programme for patients, GP referral, who struggled with high BMI and other issues.
